I knew Wendell when I was a kid in the 2nd and 3rd grades. He was a great kid. We made forts out of boxes of milk bottle caps in the storage room at his grandfather's dairy. Neat forts with tunnels and small rooms for us to hide in and stuff. His grandfather owned Alpenrose Dairy. The workers would get furious at us and run us off. They just didn't want us to get hurt.I loved olives and he would sneak olives out of the pantry at the big dairy house where there was a maid and a really neat bear skin rug on the floor from a bear his father killed hunting in Alaska. It was fuzzy and warm and warn and about the neatest thing ever.He was a real stand up guy. We had to move away from Maplewood when I was 8 and I haven't seen or heard from him in over 50 years.I don't think people really change too much.
